Two involved in a car accident on Bynum Leatherwood Road are dead according to Calhoun County Corner Pat Brown. The wreck occurred earlier this afternoon as investigators are still on the scene to determine exactly what went wrong. There are no further details being released at this time.
A sylacauga store clerk is dead after someone shot her multiple times. Sylacauga Police are investigating a shooting that happened this morning at the AOC Texaco on Highway 21. Officers responded to reports of a woman being assaulted at the service station and when they arrived they found the woman had been shot multiple times. Sylacauga EMS rushed the woman to Coosa Valley Medical Center where she died. Police Chief Kelley Johnson does not believe that this was a robbery.
Oxford Police have arrested two men in connection to thefts from several cemeteries located throughout Calhoun County. Felony warrants were obtained earlier today for Ronnie Norton, Colby Humphries, and Johnathan Brittain. All three men have been charged with stealing bronze vases from several cemeteries. Norton and Humphries were taken to the Calhoun County Jail on $15,000 bond each. Brittain is expected to turn himself in. Humphries, Norton and Brittain each have their cour
A Calhoun County man has been charged with domestic violence by strangulation. According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Matthew Hulsey got into a disagreement with a woman over his medication. When deputies arrive at a home on Choccolocco Road, Hulsey was intoxicated and the woman was upset with visible marks around her neck. Hulsey was arrested and taken into custody. He was later released on a $15,000 bond and has a preliminary hearing set for September 24th. Domes
A National Monument will get extra space to expand and preserve its famous mural. The building that has a mural of a Freedom Riders bus painted along the side has been purchased by the Conservation Fund. The fund has plans to donate the building to the city for the Freedom Riders National Monument. A tractor trailer carrying utility trailers overturned in Cherokee County this morning completely blocking Highway 68 East at the County Road 77 intersection. The truck driver was treated and released at the scene. Cherokee County EMA officials were called to the scene because of a fuel leak coming from the truck. The grant will provide funds to hire a case manager through the Cherokee-Etowah-Dekalb Mental Health.
