The Piedmont Police Department reports that a 20-year-old man was shot at a home in the 200 Block of 5th Avenue South. The wounded man was airlifted to a hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee where he is listed in critical condition. According to the Piedmont Police Department, investigators are currently interviewing witnesses to find out information about the shooting. The Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency has been awarded with two grants that totals $57,000. The Calhoun County EMA houses a regional communications vehicle that responds to disasters and other emergency needs statewide. The Piedmont Police Department wants to warn people planning to attend Friday’s football game that Old Piedmont-Gadsden Highway will be blocked for through traffic between 5th Avenue and Highway 200 starting at 4:15 Friday afternoon. People who live on Old Piedmont-Gadsden Highway are being directed to come in off 5th Avenue. Although Kick-off against Randolph County isn’t until 7, gates will open to the Field of Champions Stadium at 4:30.

Honda has issued yet another recall on more than 120,000 minivans worldwide due to the possibility of the sliding doors opening while the vans are moving. Two women from Anniston are dead after their SUV side-swiped an 18 wheeler before colliding head on with another. WEIS Radio reports that the SUV was driven by Marjorie Butler and Rhonda Vickers was a passenger. The fatal accident occurred two miles south of Clanton. State Troopers have yet to release any information on the cause of this accident.
